Producers Julia Rosenberg, Paula Devonshire and Ari Lantos announced that shooting has begun on the comedic drama Real Time, starring Randy Quaid and rising star Jay Baruchel. The film is written by Randall Cole who will also direct. Filming will take place in and around Hamilton through March 29th.

Real Time tells the story of hit man, Reuban (Randy Quaid), who gives an old acquaintance, compulsive gambler Andy (Jay Baruchel), one hour to live.

“I’m excited to be shooting my second feature with two tremendous lead actors. Randy Quaid brilliantly portrayed characters in some of my favourite films and Jay Baruchel is one of the hottest new talents out there,” said director Randall Cole, a graduate of Norman Jewison’s Canadian Film Centre where he made his first feature, 19 MONTHS.

Randy Quaid’s extensive list of feature film credits include THE APPRENTICESHIP OF DUDDY KRAVITZ, THE ICE HARVEST, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, and the upcoming GOYA’S GHOSTS and GARY THE TENNIS COACH. He was nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for THE LAST DETAIL and an Independent Spirit award for PARENTS. Jay Baruchel appeared in the Academy Award-winning MILLION DOLLAR BABY, will be seen this summer in KNOCKED UP and has just been cast to co-star in TROPIC THUNDER for DreamWorks which he will shoot after REAL TIME.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing Randall Cole, a writer/director with impeccable comic timing, together with two deliciously funny actors, Randy Quaid and Jay Baruchel. Indie movies don’t get better than this,” said producers Rosenberg, Devonshire and Lantos.

Real Time is being produced by January Films, Devonshire Productions and APB Pictures. The film is financed by Serendipity Point Films, Telefilm Canada and Corus Entertainment. Maple Pictures will distribute the film in Canada, and Serendipity Point Films will act as worldwide sales agent.
