MARK ADDY, MAURY CHAYKIN, SAUL RUBINEK, JAKE HOFFMAN, ANNA HOPKINS, CLÈ BENNETT AND HARVEY ATKIN JOIN THE CAST OF BARNEY’S VERSION

July 27, 2009 –  Producer Robert Lantos announced today Mark Addy (Around The World in 80 Days, The Full Monty); Maury Chaykin (Whale Music, Dances With Wolves);  Saul Rubinek (The Family Man, Nixon); Jake Hoffman (Click, I Heart Huckabees);  big screen newcomer Anna Hopkins; Clè Bennett (How She Move, Harvard Man) and Harvey Atkin (Law & Order, Joshua Then And Now) will join Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, Minnie Driver, Rosamund Pike, Rachelle Lefevre, Scott Speedman, Bruce Greenwood and Macha Grenon in Barney’s Version,  directed by Richard Lewis.  Screenplay is by Michael Konyves based on the novel by Mordecai Richler.   Principal photography starts in Rome on August 17th.

Barney’s nemesis, Detective O’Hearne is played by Mark Addy.   Barney’s Uncle Irv Nussbaum is played by Maury Chaykin.  Saul Rubinek plays Charnofsky, Clara’s (Rachelle Lefevre) father, the cantor from Brighton Beach.  Barney’s children, Kate and Michael are played by Anna Hopkins and Jake Hoffman. Cedric, the expat Afro-American actor in Rome is played by Clé Bennett.   Harvey Atkin plays Barney’s father-in-law.

Poised between laughter and tears, Barney’s Version is the picaresque and touching story of the politically incorrect, fully lived life of the impulsive, irascible and fearlessly blunt Barney Panofsky.

Barney’s Version  is produced by Robert Lantos, directed by Richard Lewis from a screenplay written by Michael Konyves based on the novel by Mordecai Richler.  Co-producers are Lyse Lafontaine, Domenico Procacci and Ari Lantos.  Mark Musselman is executive producer.
