FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – TORONTO, August 1, 2018 – It was announced today that the sci-fi drama, CLARA, a feature film written and directed by Akash Sherman, starring Patrick J. Adams (Suits) and Troian Bellisario (Pretty Little Liars) will premiere at TIFF.  CLARA is produced by Ari Lantos (Remember, Barney’s Version).  Anant Singh (Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom), Mark Musselman (Remember) and Brian Cox (Shepherds and Butchers) serve as Executive Producers.

“I attended TIFF for the first time four years ago when I moved to Toronto as a bright-eyed 19 year old. The festival quickly became my favourite part of the city I now call home. Today, I’m deeply honoured that CLARA will have its World Premiere at TIFF. This is one of those moments where a wild dream and real life somehow become one and the same. A big thank you to our talented cast and crew who worked exceptionally hard, and to TIFF for giving us the opportunity to share CLARA with friends, family, space lovers, and film lovers in such a special way.” said director Akash Sherman.

Producer, Ari Lantos said,  “As an independent producer there is no feeling more rewarding than learning your film has been selected by one of the world’s most prestigious and influential film festivals. And as a life-long Torontonian, having the opportunity to premiere at TIFF in front of family, friends, and our beloved city’s film-loving audiences is really the ultimate icing on the cake,” he continued,  “A great deal of gratitude and respect is owed to the fantastic team of people who brought CLARA to life, led by the tireless efforts and extraordinary talents of writer/director Akash Sherman.”

CLARA tells the story of Isaac Bruno (Patrick J. Adams), an astronomer consumed by the search for life beyond Earth. Convinced that the universe is a dark and lonely place, Isaac meets Clara (Troian Bellisario), an artist who shares his fascination for the wonders of space. Their unlikely collaboration leads to a deep connection, and a profound astronomical discovery.
